WHITE HATS OFF: ‘Scandal’ to End After Season 7

I have some semi-upsetting news to share with all of my fellow Scandal fans. THR reveals that the network is expected to announce at next week’s upfront presentation that the Shonda Rhimes drama starring Kerry Washington will end with its previously announced seventh season. When speaking to THR for Scandal’s 100th episode, Shonda stated:

“I used to know how it ended, and then Donald Trump was elected. We had a destination, and I don’t know if that’s our destination anymore. The day after the election, the whole landscape changed.”

She added:

“We had a Democratic president [when ‘Scandal’ premiered], so I wanted to take a Republican president and make him human. Then our stories would be about what would happen if the wheels came off the bus and nobody was driving the bus. The problem now is the wheels have come off the bus, and nobody’s driving.”

Writers for the hit ABC show had to scrap a planned storyline that featured Russians hacking the presidential election when reality struck too close to home for ABC’s political thriller.

If true it should be to no surprise to fans as Shonda stated back in 2014 before the premiere of season 4 that it was wasn’t a “10-season or eight-season show.”

Honestly, even without the ratings dip, ending Scandal after 7 seasons is good enough. It’s better to end a show before it goes too far off int othe deep end. Scandal’s last few seasons have been pretty disappointing but season 6 has brought back the excitement. It’s just enough to build buzz for the final installment.
