WATCH: Tamar Channels Her Mother for ‘My Man’ Official Video
After following in the footsteps of many drag queens, specifically the ones who have to lipsync for their lives, whether you enjoyed it or not, Tamar put on one hell of a performance at the BET Awards last night, where she and her long blonde wig performed her new song My Man.
Now the singer and reality TV star has released the song’s official music video, which is just as emotional and powerful as the song itself.
The black and white clip finds Tamar catching her man in a hotel room with another woman, where she attacks the woman before lashing out at her on-screen lover for cheating:
Though there were rumors stating that the song was about her troublesome year with Vince Herbert, Tamar confirmed in an interview with Rap-Up that the song was actually inspired by her parents’ relationship:
“I wanted to be a voice for my mother and say things that she didn’t get to say to both of them when it was all going down. I wanted to truly channel her as a woman and not just as my mom, to confront the both of them.”
Written by Tamar alongside Tiyon “TC” Christian, Cory Rooney and Bob Robinson Jr., My Man was released as the lead single from Tamar’s upcoming fifth studio album, which will be released by Tamartian Land Records and eOne Music Entertainment later this year.
