WATCH: See Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande & Harvey Fierstein In ‘Hairspray Live’ First Promo

Earlier this year, it was reported that NBC had chosen Hairspray as this year’s live TV special, with The Wiz Live! producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, returning for the project.

Now a first look at the cast of the special in costume has been released for a new promo spot. Set to air from Los Angeles on December 7, 2016, the cast includes Harvey Fierstein, Jennifer Hudson, Martin Short, Kristin Chenoweth, Ariana Grande, Derek Hough, Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, and newcomer Maddie Baillio.

Rosie O’Donnell, Andrea Martin, and Sean Hayes will also appear in the special.

The first Hairspray film initially hit theaters in 1988, and was written and directed by John Waters. The film starred a young Ricki Lake and Debbie Harry. It was revived on Broadway in 2002, before being remade as a film in 2007 starring John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Zac Efron and Queen Latifah, which was also produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

After 8 seasons and over 200 episodes, Teonny decided to end the show in 2012. He shortly left Defglam in the same year.

In 2012, Teonny became the Pop Culture Expert for Sinuous Magazine, an online publication dedicated to providing a multicultural exploration of art, entertainment, fashion and social issues through a mix of news and thought pieces. After a three-year run, Teonny left the publication to pursue new interests, and now resides at, as the Editor-in-Chief, where he specializes in Pop Music, though he also dabbles in Fashion, TV/Film, Rap & introducing readers to new and rising talent.

Teonny is also part of a collective called The Bloginati, a Multifaceted group with people who touch on several forms of media.
