Throwback to Celine Dion’s First Live Performance at 13 for Her 50th Birthday Today

The Canadian songbird Celine Dion turns 50 today, (just days after the American songbird, Mariah Carey) and to help celebrate, we have her first live performance. She first took to the stage at 13 in Quebec and the show’s presenter Michel Jasmin said in a documentary about the performance years later that the studio’s atmosphere when she sang was electric.

“When she arrived in the TV studios for rehearsals, when she started singing… everyone who could hear, everyone stopped by the door of the studio and wouldn’t leave.”

Celine’s career started in ’81 with that performance and she’s still going strong today in 2018. She first went to Vegas at 35 back in 2003 and at 50 she’s still there, not the entire time of course, but not only has she done such an exceptional job there, she’s raised the stature of performing in Vegas with Kurt Melien, vice-president of entertainment at Caesar’s Palace saying “Celine was a pioneer without question … Twenty years ago, we couldn’t have got someone the stature of Britney Spears to appear in Vegas. Stars likes her would never have considered it if Celine hadn’t paved the way. She changed the face of modern Vegas.”

Celine Dion was destined for greatness. Her manager and future husband René Angélil mortgaged his house to finance her career. Things like that only happen when you have that type of stand out talent that you know you’re not going to come across again. She’s now worth $800 million so it’s safe to say it was worth it.
