Remember Mariah Carey’s ‘Glitter’ Came Out Today on 9/11?

While we are all mourning the loss of loved ones and remembering the terrorist attack that forever changed the fabric of America, it was this same day that the soundtrack to Mariah Carey’s first film Glitter was released. Had it not been connected to what has been known as one of the worst films in American history, on its own it was actually a solid project. She even had a number 2 single out of it, Loverboy. It became the top selling song in the country for the year, but none of that mattered when she was paid an unprecedented $80 million by Virgin Records for her to go away just 4 months later.

Her relationship with baseball player Derek Jeter ended, she regularly spoke on conspiracy theories of her career being sabotaged and her publicist multiple times had to take her mic from her to keep her from sounding crazy… like the famous TRL episode where she had a meltdown on live air passing out icecream stripping. Alas, following a career meltdown, her mother calling the police reporting she was throwing dishes at her home, when it was all over, Mariah emerged to have one of the biggest career comebacks of all time. As for Glitter, it’s been a bit of a fan cult classic. The public still loves Mariah, even if she is a bit crazy. It works for her.
