PopGlitz on Politics: DACA Was Not the Permanent Solution Anyway

Earlier this week, the Trump administration announced that they are rescinding the DACA program. That announcement immediately sent shockwaves through the political class. However, when the announcement was made that DACA was going to be ended, many of your usual Leftists start decrying it.

President Trump’s decision to end DACA is a deeply shameful act of political cowardice and a despicable assault on innocent young people in communities across America… The President’s cruel and heartless decision to start deporting DREAMers in six months demands an immediate response from the Republican Congress – Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), House Minority Leader

Now, I have no idea how Nancy is using the term “cowardice” to refer to the President’s action when this is one of the boldest moves that he could had done. He knew it was going to be an unpopular decision but he had the gumption to make it. Instead of cowardice, it shows courage. Our president had the courage to do what he believes that is right in spite of overwhelming opposition.

Then, Botox Betty wants to say, “…assault on innocent young people.” Has the president called out the armed forces to target young illegal aliens? No; he has not. All this action does is to take our immigration policy from the sole purview of the executive branch and give it back to the United States Congress. By the way, the Constitution gives the Congress the authority over our immigration policy. Therefore, when Nancy demands “immediate response from the Republican Congress,” the legislative branch supposed to be the ones handling this in the first place.

DACA was an unconstitutional usurpation by the executive branch under the previous president who also voiced his criticism over Trump’s decision.

To target hopeful young strivers who grew up here is wrong, because they’ve done nothing wrong. – Former President Barack Obama.

Excuse me, Mr. Obama, nobody is saying that the DREAMers did anything wrong and by that same token, no one is trying to punish them for anything. However, it is only right to have a well-ordered process to accept immigrants in the country.

Moreover, with Barack, before he enacted DACA, he was constantly told audiences that he did not have the authority to so such an action. Then when he did a 360 and finally enacted DACA, he stated that it was supposed to be a temporary fix. Of course, anything temporary with the Leftists means perpetual.

Let us deal with something else about Nancy’s comments. The rescinding of DACA does not automatically means that the Trump administration is going to start deporting DREAMers in six months. When Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the decision to rescind DACA, he did not mention anything about deportation.

By the way, if the President would start deporting DREAMers, he would be within his authority since that is currently the law of the land and the duty of the president is to enforce the laws passed by the Congress. However, Trump has decided to hold off on doing anything until the Congress passes legislation that would adequately address our nation’s border crisis.

If we are honest about it, we have to admit that there is a serious crisis on our borders and sadly, DREAMers are byproducts of that crisis. There were many issues why DACA was definitely not the solution. However, the main problem with DACA is that it created a class of resident noncitizens. DACA applicants were permitted to stay in the country just as long as they never applied for citizenship. That would had resulted in either amnesty or in a couple of generations, half of our country would be citizens with all the privileges thereof while the other half of our country would be noncitizens with few to no privileges. Such a situation would definitely spark hostility and animosity between the two classes. Looking at the history of the Roman Empire, we can definitely see why creating such classes would only tear the nation asunder.

However, the United States Congress has the opportunity within these next six months to finally resolve the border crisis and President Trump can use this as his bargaining chip. Now, I do not have a crystal ball to see in the future but I doubt that this decision is going to result in any DREAMer being deported but the President can use this as a bargaining chip to build the wall on the southern border.
