Oscar-Winning Actress Lupita Nyong’o Speaks Out about Harvey Weinstein
On Thursday, October 19, 2017, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o became the latest celebrity to speak out about being sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein, revealing that she first encountered Weinstein in 2011, as a student at the Yale School of Drama.
They met at an awards ceremony in Berlin and exchanged contacts. Soon after, Weinstein convinced Nyong’o to come to his home for a film screening. He got her into his bedroom under the pretense of having something to show her, at which point he told her he’d like to give her a massage:
“I panicked a little and thought quickly to offer to give him one instead. It would allow me to be in control physically, to know exactly where his hands were at all times.”
Lupita also recounts an incident where Weinstein invited her to a so-called professional dinner but was later asked to meet him in his private room. She declined and he made threats about her career. She wrote:
“Let’s cut to the chase. I have a private room upstairs where we can have the rest of the meal.”
