‘Moonlight’ Wins Best Picture At 2017 Oscars Following Embarrassing Cue Card Mistake With ‘La La Land’

What was first called a snub has now been called a mixup! Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight won the award for Best Picture just moments ago at the 89th Annual Academy Awards!

After mis-reading and announcing that La La Land won Best Picture, it was was discovered that MOONLIGHT HAD ACTUALLY WON.

Based on Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue and adapted for the screen by him and Jenkins, Moonlight unfolds over three chapters in the life of a young, gay black man growing up in a rough Miami neighborhood.

Earlier in the evening, actor Mahershala Ali won the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. That bring’s the film’s total to three wins overrall, which also includes Best Writing Adapted Screenplay.

The film stars Trevante Rhodes, André Holland, Janelle Monáe, Ashton Sanders, Naomie Harris, and Mahershala Ali.

In 2012, Teonny became the Pop Culture Expert for Sinuous Magazine, an online publication dedicated to providing a multicultural exploration of art, entertainment, fashion and social issues through a mix of news and thought pieces. After a three-year run, Teonny left the publication to pursue new interests, and now resides at PopGlitz.com, as the Editor-in-Chief, where he specializes in Pop Music, though he also dabbles in Fashion, TV/Film, Rap & introducing readers to new and rising talent.

Teonny is also part of a collective called The Bloginati, a Multifaceted group with people who touch on several forms of media.
