MAKING HISTORY: Model Ines Rau Becomes ‘Playboy’ Magazine’s First Transgender Playmate
Hugh Hefner was one of the first public figures to fight for LGBT rights and a month after his death it’s only befitting to honor his work in a special way. It was announced that Playboy is making history with their November/December 2017 issue as it features their first openly transgender Playmate, Ines Rau!
Photographed by photographer Derek Kettela, the 26-year-old French model opened up about her struggles as a child:
“When I was doing this shoot, I was thinking of all those hard days in my childhood. And now everything happening gives me so much joy and happiness. I thought, Am I really going to be a Playmate—me? It’s the most beautiful compliment I’ve ever received. It’s like getting a giant bouquet of roses.”
When speaking about selecting Ines, Cooper Hefner, who is now running the company, stated:
“She very much speaks to the brand’s philosophy. It’s the right thing to do. We’re at a moment where gender roles are evolving. This is really a moment for us to take a step back and say that so much of what the brand stood for in the early years is very much still alive in culture.”
