The American Music Awards and BET Hip Hop Awards are around the corner and the nominations are in. It should come as no surprise that Cardi B and Drake are leading nominations in both. For those shocked at rappers leading nominations, rap is now the most listened to genre of music as of 2017 according to Nielson so strap yourselves in, you’re going to be hearing a whole lot more of it. Then there’s the objective fact that these two have been ruling the charts all year which has rewarded them both with 8 American Music Awards a piece. They’re followed up with Ed Sheeran and Post Malone each getting 6 and Camila Cabello has 5. Last year was Bruno Mars‘ time at the American Music Awards but not the case here.

The award breakdowns for Drake and Cardi at the AMAs are as follows:

Drake is up for Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock, Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop, Favorite Song – Pop/Rock (“God’s Plan”), Favorite Album – Pop/Rock (Scorpion), Favorite Album – Rap/Hip-Hop (Scorpion), Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop (“God’s Plan”), and Favorite Music Video (“God’s Plan”).

Cardi is competing for Favorite New Artist Of The Year, Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock, Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop, Favorite Social Artist, Favorite Collaboration Of The Year (“Finesse” with Bruno Mars), Favorite Song – Soul/R&B (“Finesse” with Bruno Mars), Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop (“Bodak Yellow”), and Favorite Music Video (“Bodak Yellow”).

The BET Awards, also known as the EBT Card awards as Miss My Neck My Back Khia Shamone calls it also has the leading number of nominations going to Drake and Cardi B with Drake getting 11 and Cardi 10. Drake is up for Album Of The Year (Scorpion), Lyricist Of The Year, Best Hip-Hop Video (“God’s Plan”), MVP Of The Year, Hustler Of The Year, and other trophies. Cardi’s also up for Album Of The Year (Invasion of Privacy), Best Hip-Hop Video (“I Like It” with Bad Bunny & J Balvin), MVP Of The Year, and Hustler Of The Year.

For the Drake and Cardi fans out there, the American Music Awards will be airing on ABC October 9th at 8pm ET while the BET Hip Hop Awards are October 16th at 8pm ET on BET. Hopefully by then that knot on Cardi’s head will have gone down. Hope she’s got ice!
