#BuyBlack: Marc Lamont Hill Has a Coffee Shop in Philadelphia + T.I. has His Own Starbucks Alternative

In light of the events that have taken place in Philadelphia at the Starbucks where two men were arrested for sitting in the shop waiting for a friend, this has sparked conversation with people making the conscious decision to #BuyBlack. Marc Lamont Hill, a Philly native, weeks before his 39th birthday opened a coffee shop in his hometown, inspired by his uncle Bobbie and affectionately named Uncle Bobbie’s. There likely are people in the Philadelphia area looking for another place to buy coffee and congregate. This might be a good place to start. As the historic neighborhood starts evolving, his coffee shop is taking part in shaping the new Philadelphia. He even got a cosign from The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne for people to go to his shop on Twitter.

While in the spirit of buying black, T.I. made the decision to offer an alternative coffee spot in the Atlanta area for people to go to. Next to the Mercedes Benz stadium is Rosie’s Cafe on Northside Drive. On top of being black owned, a portion of the profits go to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America. This is important because as Angela Rye reminded us on Twitter this morning, the black community currently has $1.3 trillion in buying power and instead of asking for changes in their corporate behavior, if you simply took your money and spent it somewhere else, you wouldn’t have these problems. They would be forced to make changes.
