It has just been announced that comedian and actress Leslie Jones will be hosting the 2017 BET Awards this year, and I am VERY excited about it. To make this an even more special moment for Leslie, this will serve as her first time hosting ANY MAJOR awards show in her career and its a full circle moment for the actress who appeared in Comic View:

“I am so excited to be hosting the BET Awards this year. BET was the first network and place where I was on TV – I am looking to turn this whole experience into a joyful homecoming. “I went out in the world and did what I needed to do and now I can come home to my people and say, ‘Yo! Look what I did!'”

When further speaking on her upcoming hosting duties, Leslie stated that she doesn’t plan to get too serious during the show:

“I am tired of everybody being sad and angry. I want people to just downright laugh. You can’t do the event without touching on certain things, but I’m trying to make it all funny. It’s really just about pulling the elephants out of the room and, actually, I’ll make the elephant in the room laugh about it. So my goal for this show is to have a big ‘ol nice barbecue, family reunion feel. I just want everyone cracking up. I want everyone leaving that event going, ‘Wait, did they even give awards out? I was too busy laughing.'”

The 2017 BET Awards will air live Sunday, June 25 from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET. Beyonce leads this year’s list of nominees with a total of seven nods including R&B/Pop Artist and Album of The Year for LEMONADE, while Bruno Mars comes in second place with with five nods including Video of the Year. Solange, Migos and Chance the Rapper are also scored multiple nominations.
