Alexandria Shooting Exposes the Left’s Deep-Seeded Desire for Violence

On this last Wednesday at 7:15 AM in the city of Alexandria, Virginia, Republican Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot by a gunman at a practice baseball game for a congressional fundraiser. Right before the gunman did this gruesome act, he asked whether the group of congressmen was republican or democrat. As soon as he found out that they were Republican, he went in got his weapon, came back and began then shooting. The shooting rampage lasted for a whole nine minutes but Capitol police returned fire incapacitating the gunman. That ended that ordeal but during the rampage, the gunman was able to shoot a congressional aide and the two Capitol police officers along with Congressman Scalise. If it was not for the brave actions of those two policemen, a lot more people would have been killed on that baseball field. The gunman died of his wounds.

Now, we do not really want to talk about the gunman. We do not want to bring any attention to him. However, it is important for this discussion to acknowledge the unique background of the gunman. The gunman was quickly identified as 66-year old James Hodgkinson from Belleville, Illinois. Hodgkinson was a radical leftist that spouted hateful rhetoric about Donald Trump, Republicans and anyone that were conservative.

Hodgkinson was a strong advocate of left-wing causes. He was a major supporter of Bernie Sanders and actually volunteered for the Sanders campaign during the last election. His congressman, Mike Bost (R-IL), reported that Hodgkinson would call his congressional office on many occasions to voice his opinion on certain topics. He also believed that Donald Trump was a danger to the country and also signed a petition for Donald Trump’s impeachment. Sadly, his far-left views erupted into full-blown violence with the shooting on Wednesday and it has been discovered that Hodgkinson had a hit list intending to assassinate six Republican congressmen: Mo Brooks, Trent Franks, Jeff Duncan, Jim Jordan, Scott DesJarlais and Morgan Griffith.

Unfortunately, Hodgkinson’s actions were bringing into manifest the expressions of many Leftists that have depicted violence on Trump and his supporters. Back in January, Madonna told attendees at the Women’s’ March that she thought about blowing up the White House. Snoop Dogg made a video with him pointing a gun at the head of an actor playing Donald Trump. In New York City, there is a play in which another actor playing Donald Trump is stabbed by a violent mob. Then there was Kathy Griffin’s notorious picture of holding a bloody image of Donald Trump’s head that eerily looked like an ISIS fighter after beheading one of their victims. Moreover, there are many of tweets and other social media posts by radical Leftists that occasionally call for the death of Donald Trump and anyone who supports him. Therefore with such vitriolic rhetoric coming from the Left, it was obvious that someone would put those words into action with severe consequences.

Immediately, top Democratic figures condemned the shooting and sought to show solidarity with their colleagues across the aisle. Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke on the floor.

“We are not one caucus or the other today, but we speak for each other and say that we send our thoughts and prayers to our colleague, Steve Scalise….I prayed for Barack Obama and now I pray for Donald Trump that his presidency will be successful and that his family will be safe.” – Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi)

As soon as Senator Sanders found out that the gunman had volunteered for his campaign, he addressed the Senate as well.

“I am sickened by this despicable act and let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemned this action in the strongest possible terms.” – Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

However, the comments of Pelosi and Sanders do not reflect the sentiments of their fellow Democrat, Jim Devine who made the hashtags, #HuntRepublicanCongressmen and #HuntRepublicans.

“We are in a war with selfish, foolish & narcissistic rich people. Why is it a shock when things turn violent?” – Jim Devine

Sadly, Devine’s comments and the Alexandria shooting expose that many Leftists have a deep-seeded desire for violence to be done upon Trump and anyone who supports him.
